Yves Cuilleron, among the best winemakers in Northern Rhone.
Since 1987, Yves Cuilleron has earned a solid reputation as a great winemaker. He expanded his vineyard to the neighboring appellations of Condrieu and Saint-Joseph.
The estate grew from 3 to more than 50 hectares in 30 years. Today, Yves Cuilleron produces around thirty different cuvees over a dozen appellations, in red (syrah) and white (viognier, roussanne, marsanne).
Yves Cuilleron has a very personal vision of the vineyard: he doesn’t want to stick to any production mode or certification (organic farming, biodynamics). His philosophy is simple: "producing the best possible grapes".
He practices sustainable viticulture, observing the evolution of each vine stock over the year. His cultivation practices are in line with this philosophy: he does not bann any essential treatment while systematically trying to limit them thanks to qualitative and preventive viticulture techniques. For example, he does regular leafing and green harvesting which allow for maximum aeration and therefore reduces the risk of disease.
Harvesting is exclusively manual, the alcoholic fermentations are made from natural yeasts without additions of any other oenological products.
Yves Cuilleron’s goal is not to produce "a perfect wine", but a wine that shows the characteristics of its terroir and its vintage.
For this reason he prefers to vinify each parcel separatly. Only after he proceed to blending.
