Serol estate, a flagship in cote roannaise.
Transmitted from father to son for 5 generations, the Serol estate is today a driving force on the Cote Roannaise. His red gamay-based wines are already on the tables of the greatest chefs. Every year, Troisgros (3 Michelin stars) selects a cuvee from the Serol estate to present local food and wine pairings.
In 1964, Robert Serol took over the exploitation in polyculture and obtained the classification in AOC Cote roannaise. In 2000, his son, the technician Stephane Serol, took over with great ambitions. His wife Carine helps to modernize and expand the area. They now offer a wide range of single vineyard wines and other old vines that make Serol a must-see when it comes to Gamay grape variety!
The vineyard covers 27 hectares with vines from 5 to 80 years old, located between 350 and 450 meters above sea level. Altitude is one of the characteristics that makes this area so qualitative. Composed mainly of sand on granite, the soil is perfectly adapted to the local grape varieties: Gamay Saint Romain and Viognier.
Gamay Saint Romain is a local variant of Gamay grape, located exclusively in cote roannaise. It produces round and charming wines, very characteristic of the grape variety.
For a few years now in the process of official conversion to organic farming, the first organic certified vintage will be the 2017. Reduced yields, harvest at optimum maturity, handharvest, the Serol remain very attached to the wine tradition and give themselves the means of their qualitative ambitions:
The modern winery allows partial winemaking that respects the nature and origin of the berries while preserving the quality of the grapes.
Serol estate proudly boasts its AOC Cote Roannaise, a small appellation (200 ha) for which the Serols have always invested a lot, even if now the family estate, in blind tasting, is largely at the level of other more prestigious appellations!
