Domaine du Matin Calme - Anjou - Anne-Laura Aulon et Victor Robion
A stone's throw from Angers, in the Anjou region, at Domaine du Matin Calme, Anne-Laura Aulon & Victor Robion cultivate 16 hectares of vines spread over four distinct terroirs: schist, sandstone schist, alluvium over sand and pebbles, and volcanic rock.
The winemakers met while studying in Dijon. For her: chemistry-biology + vine sciences, then finally Diplôme National d'Oenologie, and for him: BTS viti-oeno + vine sciences and finally Master's in viticulture; two damn fine heads, as they say! After a wealth of experience in France and abroad (internships in Burgundy, Champagne, New Zealand, South Africa, and their first job in Sancerre, no less!), they settled in Juigné-sur-Loire in 2022, where they now produce a varied range of wines from different grape varieties, terroirs and appellations, with great skill and talent.
This young couple of nature-loving winemakers work with respect for biodiversity and the environment. All their vines are cultivated according to these principles, favoring manual labor wherever possible. The estate is in the process of converting to organic farming.
Why rename their estate “Matin Calme”? Two additional explanations: it's the other name of South Korea, Anne-Laura's country of origin, before she was adopted by her Jura parents at 4 months old. It's also, as Victor points out, because morning work, in the calm of a sunrise, is the most efficient part of the day.
