Le Rocher des Violettes, the rising star of Montlouis-sur-Loire.
Magnificent white wines crafted with talent by a young winemaker on the rise, Xavier Weisskopf, recognized by local winemakers as one of the most talented in the region. Everything is in place at Le Rocher des Violettes to produce great Loire wines: the vines, the terroir... and the artist!
Xavier has nothing to envy his elders, as he has mastered his craft today. He learned this craft after studying oenology and viticulture (in Beaune, Burgundy), working as cellar master at one of the best estates in Gigondas (Saint-Cosme). In 2005, he realized his dream with an exceptional opportunity in Montlouis: to settle in majestic 15th-century troglodyte cellars in the heart of Amboise (with a constant temperature of 12-13°C, the dream!), with 13 hectares of vines, 9 of which are in the prestigious Montlouis-sur-Loire appellation, some of which are more than a century old! While the age of the vines results in low yields, it’s just what’s needed to produce great wines! After over 15 years, Xavier has climbed the learning ladder and now stands as one of the best winemakers in Montlouis, alongside François Chidaine.
At Le Rocher des Violettes, Clémence and Xavier Weisskopf work hand in hand, applying all the best practices: Organic farming (without fertilizers or chemical products), manual harvesting in small crates to avoid damaging the berries during transport to the cellar, and careful vinification, both for white and red wines.

Why buy wines from Le Rocher des Violettes?
Because we love them, and we believe these wines truly deserve a place in your cellar! But as some of our customers have said, "we’re not objective, since we tasted and chose them to sell: we are interested". That’s why we prefer to "defend" our selection with reviews from major wine guides, more objective than we are:
Guide RVF des Meilleurs Vins de France 2025: 1★/4 (Go there with your eyes closed). Settled with few resources in a makeshift cellar in 2005, Clémence and Xavier Weisskopf have, through courage and perseverance, built their vineyard. For several years now, they have been among the leaders of Montlouis-sur-Loire. The 17 hectares spread between Montlouis and Touraine are farmed organically. Touche Mitaine (flint-clay soils), Les Borderies (clay-limestone, 40-year-old vines), Le Grand Poirier (clay-sandy, 67-year-old vines)... A myriad of terroirs have been isolated in bottles to showcase whites aiming for aromatic nuance, delicacy, and the pure expression of chenin, either dry or with residual sugars, depending on the vintage’s mood. The reds still have room to improve.
Guide Bettane + Desseauve: 3★/5 (High Quality Production). In organic farming, Xavier Weisskopf works 9 hectares in Montlouis and 4 in the Touraine appellation. His terroirs are planted with old vines from mass selections, which fosters high-quality cuvées. The whites impress with their purity, in an appellation that boasts many talents. An elite winemaker, one of the best addresses in the region.
