Le Pas Saint Martin, organic Saumur from Loire valley
Le Pas Saint Martin is a family estate run by Laurent Charrier. It produces white and red Saumur, based on Chenin and Cabernet Franc. Fresh and lively organic wines, highly appreciated by Loire wine lovers.
Located in Doue La Fontaine, in the heart of the vineyards of Saumur, Le Pas Saint Martin stretches over 16 hectares. For the record, the name "Pas Saint Martin" comes from the Cross of Pas Saint Martin. It is a small stone cross built on the edge of the Pierre Frite wood which was, in the middle ages, the last stage for the pilgrims of Saint Jacques de Compostela.
Laurent Charrier leads his vineyard according to the methods of organic farming. The estate has been certified by Ecocert since 1997. It does not use any products of synthetic chemistry in the vineyards.
The red wines produced from the Cabernet Franc grape favor fruit and minerality. Chenin-based whites are characterized by their freshness, their tension, and their beautiful acidity.
Since 2009 the domain offers a pedagogical animation for children: "The world of Pierre Frite" which aims to educate the youngest in biodiversity.
When wee met Laurent Charrier, we very much appreciated his philosophy and completely cracked for his wines. We had to wait a year and a half before he answered our requests and gives us his trust (probably the winemaker is more often in his vineyard than behind his computer to read his emails), but here are finally three of his wines in our selection!
