Chemin des Reves, organic Pic Saint Loup by Benoit Viot.
Benoit Viot produces wines in Pic Saint Loup appellation at Chemin des Reves estate, as well as some Grès de Montpellier. For the reds, the vines are planted with syrah, grenache, mourvedre, cinsault and carignan. The whites come from Vermentino, Marsanne, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier grape varieties.
Located 10 km from Montpellier, the estate takes its name from the small path that borders the vineyards, where Benoit and his wife like to walk, paint ... The vineyard covers 20 hectares and has been certified organic since November 2017. The soils are composed of limestone chips, sandy alluvium and rolled pebbles (the same as in Chateauneuf-du-Pape)
Originally from Tours, Benoit Viot is a former pharmacist. Passionate about medicine and biology, but also wine, he traveled around the world to open his mind on a new subject :-) He did not immediately start as a winemaker: he first wanted to understand wine while traveling, and for the anecdote, he even developed a very personal cuvee in his bathroom in England. In 2004 he created his own estate: Chemin des Reves. And in 2013, after having rented spaces for 10 years in other cellars, he finally had his own wine-making and aging tool in Saint-Gély du Fesc. Each plot is first vinified separately and then assembled. Benoit favors pigeage and uses very little sulfur. The aging takes place mainly in vats and some wines are aged in barrels.
At the tasting, the wines are gourmet and well balanced. The names of the vintages are as original as the domain name: Bois-Moi, Abracadabra, Exuberant, Gueule de Loup, Utopie and La Soie!
