Clos Marie, one of the best estates in Languedoc
CLOS MARIE by Christophe Peyrus and Françoise Julien may be the best Pic Saint Loup (wine from Languedoc).
Managed in co-ownership by the two winemakers, the Clos Marie estate (19-hectare vineyard) was created in 1995, and its rise has been swift. Trained by the best winemakers, Christophe Peyrus has come to know each vineyard plot and experimented with the best winemaking methods, with a single goal: to create great wines that showcase the best of each terroir, all cultivated using biodynamic practices.
The range is comprehensive, from "L'Olivette", with wonderful aromas of flowers and fresh fruits, to the magnificent "Glorieuses", made for the finest dishes, passing through "Simon" and "Les Métairies du Clos", each cuvée with its own personality, displaying all the qualities of great wines: enjoyable in their youth, they improve with time, rewarding those with patience.

Why buy Clos Marie's Pic St Loup wines?
Because we love them, and we believe these wines belong in your cellar! But as some of our clients have told us, "we are not objective, since we tasted them and chose them to sell: we are interested." That's why we prefer to "defend" our selection with comments from leading guides, who are more objective than we are:
RVF Guide to the Best Wines of France 2025: 2★/4. Clos Marie tells the story of a rapid ascent of a steep rocky peak. In less than 30 years, Christophe Peyrus and Françoise Julien have tamed these garrigue wines and understood this complex appellation, with a lot of hard work in the vineyard, a deep understanding of the site and its subcomponents, the quality of the parcels and plant material. The style, initially dense and powerful, has been refined to express today with great elegance, managing ripeness well and seeking freshness, without renouncing the southern character of Pic Saint-Loup.
La Revue du Vin de France (March 2016) - The 50 cuvées that tell the story of Languedoc: "The journey of Christophe Peyrus and Françoise Julien embodies the Languedoc revolution. After two decades of deep work, with its successes and failures, the duo seems to have a head start: a true wine culture, care for plant material quality (massal selections), precise winemaking (partly with whole clusters) and aging techniques."
Guide Bettane + Desseauve : 3★/5 (High Quality). This flagship estate of Pic Saint-Loup has been expertly managed since 1995 by Christophe Peyrus. A figurehead of the appellation, the winemaker cultivates 23 hectares. Praised for their intensity, finesse, texture, and distinction, the estate’s wines don't have unanimous support, as some enthusiasts are put off by the acidity related to the estate's low wine protection choices. While we don't fully endorse this divisive feature, we defend Clos Marie for its unique tannin finesse and the delicacy of its flavors.
Guide Bettane + Desseauve 2019: 3★/5 (High Quality). Clos Marie leads the race in Pic Saint-Loup, and no other estate seems close to catching up, which is unfortunate for the appellation, which still has many great estates.
Selected for the Bettane + Desseauve Honor Roll 2016(These estates impressed us with the quality of their production, their progression, their value for money, or a particularly successful wine).
