Le Clos des Quarterons - Agnès et Xavier AMIRAULT
Agnès and Xavier Amirault now look after the 37 hectares of Clos des Quarterons, perfectly situated on the southern slopes of Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil, between limestone, flinty clay and sand or gravel. It has been in the family for over 180 years and is perfectly sheltered from the north winds by the forest. An ideal site for producing great Cabernet Franc, not to mention an extraordinary cellar of nearly one hectare, dug into an old tufa quarry.
Organic and especially biodynamic agriculture (Demeter certification) is omnipresent and gives rhythm to life on the estate. That of humans and the organic. The omnipotent "respect of the living" leads to an exemplary biodiversity, which allows the unique expression of each terroir (54 very distinct parcels! ), among other things thanks to the use of indigenous yeasts and the total absence of inputs in the wine until bottling, after vinification and ageing in multiple containers, depending on the vintages and characteristics of the vintage: normal barrels (228L) or demi-muids (500L) acquired from the best coopers (Tarransaud, Stockinger, etc.), oak tuns, concrete eggs, clay or sandstone amphoras...
The Amirault's credo: "Our wines are living wines from living soils. Literally".
Guide Bettane et Desseauve : 1★/5.
