François Labet, from Clos Vougeot in Burgundy to Corsica

François Labet, well known for his fine Burgundy wines, also produces a "pleasure" wine in Corsica. His grandfather settled in the south of the island more than half a century ago, and the surrounding terroir did not leave indifferent this family from the Cote de Nuits, and owner of one of the most beautiful terroirs located a few hectometers from Chambolle Musigny: Clos Vougeot.
The Labet family could not resist the urge to produce wine, even on vacation! Located on the heights, the local terroir was ideal for making pretty Pinot Noirs, a variety that they master like no one else, in the vineyard as well as in the cellar. Of course, the objective was more the production of accessible "pleasure" wines than Corsican grand crus intended for long aging. This is why the harvest is entirely destemmed for an explosive fruitiness (unlike Clos Vougeot from Chateau de la Tour, a qualitative standard of the magnificent Burgundy family production).
The aging is however carried out in oak barrels, ideal container for the essential refining of Pinot Noir. The vineyard is located on the west coast of Corsica, 35 km from Porto Vecchio. It covers 25 ha and enjoys exceptional sunshine. Prices have remained reasonable, and most of the production is exported ... to Japan! An original and unpretentious discovery for every day.
