Michel Redde, among the best Sancerre and Pouilly Fume from Loire
Michel Redde is a historic estate in Pouilly. The vineyard covers 42 hectares, mainly planted with sauvignon (whose local name is Fume de Pouilly). The 3rd generation at the helm prepares Pouilly Fumé, fresh and powerful.
The Redde family is a very old family of Pouilly. The winemaker's origins date back to 1630. But it is with Michel Redde that the estate's history really begins in the 1950s: he enlarges the farm and builds a tasting cellar, "La Moynerie" on the edge of the famous Nationale 7. The name is given in reference to the monks who had worked a lot in the vineyards.
In 1977, Thierry REDDE joined his father at the estate. Then in 2003 and 2005, Sebastien and Romain, sons of Thierry, arrive also. They choose to focus on precise plot work, in order to highlight the singularities of each terroir. Particularity of the estate: they also own 1.5 hectares of chasselas and are among the last winemakers to highlight this grape variety.
The Redde practice sustainable agriculture, little interventionist, respecting the soil and the environment; little by little they convert the domain into organic. Organic inputs are controlled, yields are low, harvesting is manual.
Michel Redde's wines are appreciated and sought after for their freshness and purity. Expressive and straighforward, amateurs are seduced by their great minerality.
