Vignoble Alain Robert - Catherine et Cyril Robert
Domaine Robert is located in Chançay, in the AOP Vouvray, Loire Valley. The 37 hectares are mainly planted with the Chenin Blanc grape variety, and the soils are very classic: clay-limestone and clay-silica. Since its creation by Christiane and Alain Robert in 1973 from the family's 2 hectares, the estate has grown in power and experience, especially when their son Cyril joined them in 2000 after his first experiences in Champagne and Anjou, and then their daughter Catherine in 2013, after an apprenticeship at Jacky Blot's Taille aux Loups.
Today, Catherine and Cyril Robert continue to move their estate up the hierarchy of their appellation, and have the ambition "to extract the best from the Vouvrillon terroir, while gaining in precision and accuracy in the expression of Chenin Blanc." They now have very beautiful vines (managed using sustainable agriculture with, for example, the collective use of mating disruption instead of insecticides) and facilities (including a magnificent troglodyte cellar dug into the tufa rock).
We loved their dry chenin cuvée, especially its pleasure/price ratio! This is our first Vouvray, in 10 years of discoveries, and we are very proud of it: it benefits from a vineyard pampered all year round (trimming, de-budding, leaf removal, green harvesting, trellising for healthy and concentrated grapes) then a manual harvest with table sorting, and an ageing in non-new Burgundy barrels for more complexity.
Guide Bettane et Desseauve : 1★/5.
