Clos Cibonne – Deforges Family in Provence

Clos Cibonne - Roux Family

Located in Provence, in Le Pradet, Clos Cibonne is a family-owned wine estate spanning 15 hectares and the ambassador of the Tibouren grape variety in France.

The estate was named "Cibonne" in honor of its former owner, Jean-Baptiste de Cibon, who sold it to the Roux family, who have managed the property for over two centuries.

In the 1930s, André Roux decided to reintroduce a nearly extinct grape in Provence: the Tibouren, an ancient, noble, and demanding variety, which had almost disappeared due to the phylloxera crisis. To obtain the Côtes de Provence appellation, he added Syrah, Grenache, and Cinsault vines. In 1955, the estate earned the right to use the "Cru classé" designation due to its Tibouren from Le Pradet.

Then, Jacqueline, André’s daughter, took over the estate with her husband Emile Mourchou. Over 15 years, they restructured, modernized, and expanded the estate, passing down their expertise to their daughter Brigitte and her husband Claude Deforges, who took over in 2003 and continue the tradition today with their children Olivier and Caroline, the new generation of Tibouren ambassadors.

Today, the entire vineyard is maintained using organic farming practices, with the 2020 vintage being the first to earn certification.

The estate offers characterful wines of high quality in rosé, white, and red.

Why buy wines from Clos Cibonne?

Because we love them and believe these wines deserve a place in your cellar! As some clients have told us, "we’re not objective, since we tasted and chose them to sell: we’re biased." That’s why we prefer to "defend" our selection with reviews from major guides, more objective than we are:

Guide Bettane + Desseauve 2024: 4/5. Tibouren, the great grape of Provence, rich in diverse styles, aromas, and identity, reaches its highest expression at Clos Cibonne. In the idyllic landscape of Le Pradet, nurtured by the Deforges family, they achieve excellence, bathed by the gentle Mediterranean influence. The red is as remarkable as the rosé: anchored in its style, age-worthy, and always harmonious.

Guide RVF des meilleurs vins de France 2024: 1/4. Tibouren dominates the blends, leaving a strong mark. We were dazzled by the profound, maritime and Provençal character of the rosés, the highlight of the estate. To our delight, they stand out from regional norms. Mostly from old vines (cuvée des Vignettes), aged one year in large barrels or casks (Caroline), they mature beautifully, able to replace a fine Mediterranean white at the table. The reds, more classic and rigid, have yet to reach the finesse of the rosés.
