Perrin family, a model in southern Rhone.
The "Chateau de Beaucastel" is a historical site of Chateauneuf du Pape appellation since the 16th century.
The Perrin family took over the estate in the middle of the 20th century. Jacques Perrin made the wines famous.
Today, Jean Pierre and Francois Perrin perpetuate the tradition of quality established by their father. they own an exceptional capital of 100 hectares of old vines, ¾ of which benefit from the Chateauneuf du Pape AOP.
The terroir of Beaucastel is unique: it is made up of Miocene marine molasses, covered by an alpine diluvium. It enjoys an exceptional microclimate: the rainfall is very low, with huge temperature differences. The famous pebbles (so specific to Chateauneuf) play an essential role in the success of each vintage: they store heat during the day and return it to the vines at night.
The quality of the wines of the vineyards of the Perrin family comes from the respect of its terroir and the valorization of its soil and its environment. Pioneers in the approach of organic farming since 1950, then biodynamic since 1974, the Perrin consider the vineyard as an ecosystem where the soil, the stars and the animals play an important role in the physiology of the vine.
By continuing the tradition of assembling the 13 Chateauneuf du Pape grape varieties (mourvedre, grenache, syrah, cinsault, vaccarese, counoise, black terret, muscardin, clairette, picpoul, picardan, bouboulenc and rousanne) the estate creates a unique style every year. This is what gives the wine this exceptional combination of power, structure, elegance and freshness. Great wines with exceptional aromas and length.
The vinification is in line with the rigorous work carried out in the vineyard. The grapes are picked exclusively by hand, carefully sorted. Only the finest grapes will be vinified.
Most of the red wine production is Chateau Beaucastel itself. An exceptional cuvee - almost unavailable - is vinified from old mourvedres in the great years: it is called "Hommage a Jacques Perrin". While waiting to taste these Chateauneuf du Pape, you can tru the Coudoulet de Beaucastel cuvee : every vintage it offers an "extraordinary" approach to the Cotes du Rhone appellation, whose quality surpasses many neighboring chateauneufs.
